High School Team Conspires To Hit Umpire

Got this straight from Rick Reilly’s article from <ESPN the Magazine> about a pitcher and catcher from Stephens County who were upset with the umpire’s calling of balls and strikes that they plunk him with a fastball in the face… The catcher ends up losing his position at the college he was going to next year and the school is fined $1,000 while the umpire has found a lawyer and hopefully sues the heck out of the school and those two kids.

As a side note, the brother of the pitcher (who was playing shortstop) was had just been drafted #15 overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers – Ethan Martin.

By the way, Stephens County lost the game to Cartersville 13-1 in the Georgia high school Class AAA championship game.

Tiger’s Season Done?

Reportedly Tiger Wood’s season is done after his remarkable victory at Torrey Pines to win on the 91st hole. Apparently he was under orders from his doctors not to play more than 72 holes this past week but when Rocco Mediate forced him into a playoff round of an extra 18 holes plus one sudden death hole, it took its toll on Tiger’s knee who certainly played the entire week trying to hide the pain.

Now at 14 career Major victories, his quest for the record 18 Majors will be put on hold as he has said he fully expects to return in 2009.

I bet Rocco is feeling pretty bummed right now after playing the best 91 holes of his life and going head to head with Tiger for 19 holes, all he has is a second place to show for it. Now let’s see if he can carry this momentum into the British Open or PGA Championship.

Obviously, he hasn’t been drinking enough Gatorade Tiger…

Interested In Reading My Book?

As some of you may have heard, I am currently in the midst of writing a book on baseball and issues that are plauging the game today. I want to say I am just about half way through writing it, since I don’t expect the book to be very long about 100-125 pages. The chapters are going to cover various issues including steroids, the media and how the influence of money has taken over the game.

I already have one reader and I am currently looking for maybe 2 or 3 more people who are interested in critically reading what I have written and tearing it to shreds with corrections, suggestions and even ideas on what else to write. Let me know if you are interested, and I’ll arrange to send you a copy of what I have.

Plus, if you are quite handy with graphic design and would like to design a front and back cover for the book, let me know and I can give you the title and what I would like to see on the cover. I am sure any work done towards the book can be appropriately compensated if we agree to something.
