My Trip Home (12/24 – 12/28)

A blizzard wasn’t exactly what I was looking forward to when I went home this past weekend but it sure made things interesting.

The drive down there Friday afternoon was really good since I guess not too many people drive down to the United States on Christmas Eve. The border, which didn’t have too many cars, ended up costing me over an hour because I was classified under “Document Control” which required further inquiry on their end. It turns out that since I am no longer actively residing in the US, I will need to apply for USCIS – I-131, Application for Travel Document or otherwise risk losing my permanent resident status. A slightly confusing point was the agent telling me I need to apply for any travel over 6 months (which will be in January for me) but the application instructions say the permit is required once you have elapsed over 1 year. I figure I should get that cleared up as soon as possible since I am traveling to Boston in February.

It was good to see our new house fully furnished for the first time and I did sleep in my bedroom for the first time as well. The huge driveway, which is quite useful for the tons of relatives that come to visit, is also a very big pain to clean storms that dump 18” of snow on you. My mom had prepared lots of good food which obviously included Kofta (of course) but we ended up eating out most of the days – Popeyes, Chicken Guy, Kabab Paradise and Sun Tavern. Let it be known for the record however, I did not leave New Jersey without eating Kofta at least twice – because that would have been unacceptable on my part.

I was hoping to see a lot more friends from high school on Monday but the blizzard took care of that. However, the day wasn’t a complete waste as roads cleared up a little so I saw a couple of friends from Milltown before wheeling and dealing decisions took place to relocate the 222 Secret Santa Tres over to Justin’s house so Jolly White Giant could also grace us with his presence because 30” of snow is too much for him to drive in. I will also neither deny nor confirm the fact that a vast majority of that time was spent playing/yelling/screaming at Mario Kart.

Work is pretty light again this week as we all anticipate/dread the YE stuff to start next week. One coworker next to me answered her phone this morning by saying, “Alien Headquarters, Guadalajara. How can I help you?” – all in joking of course, we don’t really host reception services for the Alien HQ… as far as I know.

Do You Believe in Alien Life?

Well this is a fantastic story coming out of The Daily Telegraph in Australia, where an astronaut by the name of Dr. Edgar Mitchell has claimed that aliens exist and on several occasions have already visited this lovely planet of ours.

Where he might sound a little loony is that he says they are quite similar to the folklore description of these alien creature with small frame, large eyes and head that would look quite strange to the humans.

What is a little nerve racking to say the least, he said that our technology is “not nearly as sophisticated” as those of our foreign visitors and “had they been hostile… we would be been gone by now”.

“I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we’ve been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real,” Dr Mitchell said. “It’s been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it’s leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it. I’ve been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes – we have been visited. Reading the papers recently, it’s been happening quite a bit.”

NASA on the other hand were very quick to distance themselves from any statements he made by releasing a statement in which a spokesman said: “NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe. Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue.”

I have long believed that it would be very naive for us to think that we are long in this large and very expansive universe. Certainly it would be remarkable the day that we do make contact with a specie from outside of Earth – or the day that it is made publicly known regarding the matter.

I am not certain how a majority of our population would take to such news and maybe it is for the better that the information be suppressed some what but by no means am I advocating that information be hidden from the public for nearly 60 years as has been alleged by Dr. Mitchell.

I think it is bound to cause some chaos with those who are always unafraid about things they do not know very well (whether it be other races, ideas or in this case aliens) but I think for the sake of humanity and our essential survival probably depends on maintaining contact with these creatures and ultimately leading to maybe colonizing and expanding outside of the realms of the Earth.
