Streak in Jeopardy?

So I am currently sitting in my apartment looking at a boxed up television that is packed and ready to be shipped to the Sullivan residence. The MLB.tv package puts a local blackout in effect for any Yankee, Mets and possibly Phillies games so this afternoon’s Yankee game in Kansas City is not looking too promising. So far I am 7 for 7 in the games played this season with the Yankees going 4-3 in that stretch. Royals starting the season well with a 3 game sweet of the Tigers… hopefully they can pull off the same stuff against the Yanks.

I have several scenarios lying on the table right now. I could transport the new TV that is coming into the apartment but that requires carrying an 80 pound set down a block from CPA and then up 5 flights of stairs. Another option is finding some broadcast somewhere to catch an inning or so and the rest on the radio. The last option is to go out somewhere to catch the game and keep my streak alive.

I wonder, does listening to the entire game on the radio qualify as keeping the streak intact? What do you think?

Any other suggestions?

Edit:
So far it has been an even split on people suggesting listening to the game on the radio counts just as much as watching it on TV while others saying either its just not the same to my initial goal was to “watch” the games.

Adding Fuel To The Fire

So here I am talking about fascination with the lovely New York Yankees yet again. My brother has a mlb.tv account which is an awesome feature offered by Major League Baseball that allows you to watch all the games (not in your local market) online. Granted you have to pay a chunky amount of money for the subscription, for any enthusiastic baseball fan (of more than just one team), it is really worth the money. It really is.

So I am 5 games into the season for both the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays and here is where I stand.

Games Watched: New York Yankees (5) and Toronto Blue Jays (4)
Games Watched means I caught a portion of the game that given night.

Here is my goal for the season. Just because I live in the tri-state area and it is more convenient for me to watch the Yankees, I plan to catch at least an inning (or more) of all 162 (plus postseason if they make it) games. So far I have caught 3 full games and 2 partial games but I am 5/5. For the Blue Jays, I caught all 3 games versus the Yankees but only 1 of 2 so far against the Red Sox. As for the Jays since I will have to catch most of their games online, I am hopeful to watch at least 81 games (half the season).

Warning to A-Rod…

Here is one of those stories that even if you tried to make up you couldn’t get it as good.

A 13 year old girl taking a tour of Fenway Park earlier today was attacked by a hawk which drew blood from the top of her head. That’s a sad story regardless of who it happens to but intriguing sports part of this story comes out that this girl’s name was A-Rod… Alexa Rodriguez. Seriously, what the odds of a girl named that gets attacked in Boston’s baseball stadium known for its disdain towards the Yankee Slugger. Hopefully the stadium treats Alex Rodriguez just as nicely when he comes to visit a couple of times in the 19 times that the two teams play each other this season.

It’s good news to hear that girl from Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Connecticut is doing alright and hopefully the Red Sox nation doesn’t lose one of their members to the dark side due to this. Get well soon young Alexa!

Weekend Recap and More

Didn’t post anything over the past two days because basically my day has been encompassed of sleeping, eating, LOTS OF STUDYING, some Smash and March Madness. All of this probably started Thursday night, (notice the last post is from Friday at about 4:20 AM). I looked over the Section 0 and 1 that night and played some Super Smash Bros. Brawl – a game that was probably not a fan of at first, because I was never really into character games like that but I think it is safe to say I might have rushed to judgment on that one. Whoops. As for the studying for this big exam goes, I breezed through Section 0 and 1 that night because it mostly reviewed Algebra and Pre-Calculus stuff as well as basic probability concepts. That wasn’t so bad and it only covered about the first 50 pages of this exam review book (out of 400+ pages). Then Friday I started a little bit of Section 2 – Conditional Probability and Independence. Yea that was a review of the Prob/Stats class I have already taken but that was about a year ago and since I haven’t used much of these concepts since then, there is a tendency to forget. I was real good yesterday with a solid 5 hour lockdown mode and completely finish Secion 2 with its 20+ problem sets that I did twice just to make sure I had everything down pat. Section I got through most of it last night and today and now I think this pretty much covered everything I knew, maybe another section on random variables I think. Then the new stuff starts.

Okay, enough math stuff for this post. I’ll try to limit those to one paragraph a post. I’ve been playing quite a lot of smash in the time where I have had nothing else to do but don’t confuse that with me being any good. You can probably apply that to March Madness brackets as well where it’s always good to get humbled by your sister and a fellow math major who didn’t even know what ESPN stood for – Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (for those who didn’t know). My two picks for today both went down the drain – Texas just stunk it up against Memphis who I have said all year isn’t a very good team (maybe they’re a little good now). Davidson who after everything was in the game even though Curry shot like 5/24 or something but those last 14 seconds… no excuses. They took too much time to bring the ball up the court. No excuses.

Here’s some good news for me I guess, I went 7/8 in my women’s bracket. Only incorrect pick was having #3 Duke in the Elite 8 over #2 Texas A&M. Looking forward to the UConn/Rutgers game on Tuesday – I really think the winner of that game will represent the left side of the bracket in the Championship game. On the other side I don’t think Pat Summit gets stopped this year either and will win her game vs. A&M and then beat UNC. I’m hoping for a Rutgers/Tennessee game – one can only hope.

Probably gonna go watch Valley of Elah now – a movie Joe recommended to me. I’ll see how it is, if I like it, might post about it tomorrow if I have time. Opening Day tomorrow for Blue Jays and Yankees. I might post a story tomorrow or something soon about my facination with the Yankees. Obviously there’s gotta be a reason everyone thinks I’m a closet New York Yankees fan.

Volunteer at Yankee Stadium?

The New York Yankees are looking for volunteer who want to work during this summer’s Major League Baseball All-Star weekend that is hosted at Yankee Stadium from July 11th to the 15th.

You have the option for signing up for either “New York Ambassador” or “DHL All-Star FanFest Volunteer”. An ambassador you could greet guests at hotels, or other parts of the city, working on transportation, assisting with hospitality events or helping with clerical duties. As a FanFest volunteer, you can become a host, information guide, skills game coach or any of the dozens of other interesting and challenging positions at the world’s largest baseball showcase. As if just participating in one of those events was not enough, you will end up receiving “a commemorative shirt, cap, lanyard, and fanny pack, as well as a special 2008 All-Star Volunteer gift.”

So if you a few days free in the summer (Thursday to a Tuesday), why not apply and see what happens especially since this is the year for Yankee Stadium before the new one opens up. I applied and so have a couple of my friends. If you are interested, click on the link at the beginning of the post or below.

“The 79th All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Yankee Stadium. In addition to the Tuesday night All-Star Game, All-Star Week festivities bring a variety of events to New York. The DHL All-Star FanFestĀ®, Taco Bell All-Star Sunday, XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game, Taco Bell Legends/Celebrity Softball Game, Gatorade All-Star Workout Day, and the State Farm Home Run Derby will span the five days (July 11th-15th).”
