Woot T-Shirt Contest

So there is a Shirt.Woot contest that is going on until Monday about wearing a Woot Shirt in a country that is not United States and then submitting the picture. Much to my delight as I will be going to Canada on Thursday and now I will be taking my two shirts “Army In My Pocket” and “Do The Math” but I am still not sure what kind of picture to take.

Any ideas?

Anyways, here is a mini description about the contest with a link above.

You may or may not have known that our t-shirt site, Shirt.Woot, now ships to 45 countries whose residents are otherwise unable to partake of the Woot empire’s offerings. In any case, you know it now. But frankly, we worry a little about sending our “fabric children” out into the great big world. We’d feel so much better if they’d get in touch with us and let us know they’re alright. Your challenge this week:

Show us a Woot tee in its new home in one of the countries on this list.

Any Woot tee, past or present, is fair game – here’s a list, with artwork. Obviously, the funnier the situation and the connection to the country in question, the better. And we shouldn’t need to tell you this, but we will: defamatory ethnic and racial stereotypes will get you nowhere.

Google Adsense: Partisan?

Of course I am only kidding but look at the four ads that were displayed when I loaded up my browser just now. Three of them on Pest Controls and how to get rid of mice… followed by the last ad which is titled The Real Barack Obama: The truth behind the candidate – “Barack Obama Exposed” – Free!

By no means am I trying to say that Google is trying to link the two things together, I am just not really sure what tags or posts triggered the three prominent displays for local pest controls. Maybe PETA triggered it… who knows really but that’s quite an interesting set of ads to be displayed for me.

By the way, feel free to support the advertisements shown on the blog on either side including the get paid to write blog posts which is located at the bottom of the right side bar. Enjoy!

Reddit Frontpage!

Well here is a first, for me at least. I try to submit interesting stories and usually none that I see have already been submitted and this is the first time a story has made it to the front page. I have also been commenting more often and the Reddit score jumped from 1 to 18, a score which hadn’t changed for the past five months since I joined Reddit. You can go check out the site now at http://www.reddit.com/info/6ossg/comments/ or view the screenshot below. My username is cuptocanada.

By the way, the story that I submitted Terry Bradshaw admits using steroids in ’70s which he came out and admitted yesterday saying it was doctor prescribed and was administered to make him heal faster. You can argue either side on this issue whether he cheated to get an advantage or just took something that was not illegal at the time.

Me on Reddit Frontpage

Anyways, congrats to me ๐Ÿ˜›

P.S. Yes that is me using a Windows 2000 computer at work and MS Paint to highlight my story.

Download Day 2008

Set a Guinness World Record
Enjoy a Better Web

Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours – itโ€™s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008. Join our community and this effort by pledging today.

A Really Rotten Apple

As if Apple really needed to give me a reason to not like them anymore. Let me preface this by saying this… Yes I have an iPod that was gifted to me several years back and yes I use it to listen to music on the go but more and more I have gotten angry with it, with iTunes and now the Apple Software Update program.

The hassle of the proprietary software use with Apple has just gone over the top. I have been limited to using iTunes for my music because of my iPod and if I want to use something else, I’ll still have to update my playlist in iTunes if I want to update it on my iPod. I have pretty much given up on that fact and I just stick to using the resource hog program. I will say though I like the rating system, the “Top Rated” songs only playlist and the smart playlist that changes on the fly according to the criteria you have set.

Anyways, that’s enough praise for Apple from me. What ticked me off today occurred while I was eagerly awaiting a Windows Update to occur so I could install the Service Pack 1 for Vista that was finally released. While I am waiting… my screen gets littered with this prompt from the Apple Software Update Program.

Honestly, I almost had the urge of uninstalling iTunes right there on the spot and never using my iPod or iTunes again. I am quite happy using my Firefox 3 (Beta 4) which I might add has been running quite smoothly and I can’t wait for the final release. I don’t need no Safari on my laptop. No Safari is not the “fastest and easiest-to-use web browser for the PC”. I don’t need Apple trashing my computer with more of their products and lies.

I apologize to all the readers who are Mac fans but I cannot stand it anymore… and that’s why I’m ranting at this time of night. I am truly an Angry Brown Guy right now!
