Weekend Forecast

I’m gonna head down to Washington DC for the weekend with a couple of roommates and a friend, hopefully the weather cooperates (like the 70 degrees today for the entire weekend would be nice). We’ll see how that goes. Anyways, so much going on in the world of sports. NHL Playoffs started yesterday, Masters Tournament started today and Yankees/Red Sox weekend series starts tomorrow night. Another hurdle towards the consecutive games streak comes into play tomorrow as I may be on the road during the game but I can always resort that radio although I would like the use that a little as possible.

NHL Playoffs started yesterday and from what I remember correctly my friend Rusty from High School was at the Devils/Rangers game handing out towels and whatnot to the fans in attendance. I haven’t talked to him since the game but I probably will tonight to ask him how it went. I’m sure he would have preferred a Devils victory but it’s only game 1. The Pens on the other hand looked pretty good, albeit it was against the shorthanded Senators who have really been short handed with a string of injuries and especially after their 15-2 start to the season this year. There have been rumors about the Penguins tanking their last game of the season so they secured a series with Ottawa instead of the Flyers and who knows to the truth about that statement but the Senators are really over-matched in this series.

I know some games have already been played but here are my predictions anyways.
East: Canadiens in 5. Penguins in 4. Capitals in 6. Rangers in 6.
West: Red Wings in 4. Flames in 6. Avalanche in 6. Ducks in 7.

Canadiens are 8-1-1 and certainly that momentum should carry in the playoffs as well. Penguins as I said over are too talent and not injured enough to lose this one. Ovechkin and his Caps have probably just a little too much talent for the Flyers to overcome with their solid defense. Maybe my non-Devil bias comes into play here but I really think the Rangers are a better team. They have more strength up front and they can play defense with the Devils and that is certainly putting a lot on the much older shoulder of Marty Brodeur who I don’t think has it in him to carry the team on his shoulders.

In the West, how anyone might be able to even fathom an upset here is beyond me. I’ll continue to hope for an all-Canadian team Stanley Cup Final as long as it is possible – reason for my upset there. As for the Avalanche, I know better than to count them out and certainly them winning game 1 helps that out. As for the last series out West, not really sure where to go with that one but I hear the Ducks are a more physical team this year and that should give them the edge.

As a side note, The Office finally returns tonight. Not sure when the other shows are returning but there is a rumor that Jericho might be making a return for a 3rd season. The only person I know that watches it beside me is Justin but this is certainly a show that I would recommend. Only a season and a half worth of episodes, so not too time consuming if you want to watch.

I’ll probably do another update when I return Sunday and update on the weekend, the streak, the Masters, the NHL Playoffs, and any other exciting thing might have occured.
